Girls Choral Academy (GCA) is dedicated to creating quality performance art and providing quality arts education. Singers experience a wide range of musical styles, genres, origins, and cultures, including traditional, jazz, gospel, multicultural, classical, and contemporary.
GCA provides a safe, loving and nurturing environment, a place where girls can form a positive sense of self as they experience the rewards of a successful musical education and goal accomplishment. The Girls Choral Academy encourages girls to develop self-esteem, self-confidence, and leadership skills through opportunities to perform solos, as well as work as a team and build community.
During a weekly rehearsal, students are taught the basics of good choral performance: breathing, diction, posture and blending. As the season progress students perform in the community and participate in community service projects. They explore career pathways and visit a college campus. Guest artists come to perform for each choir to inspire and motivate young singers. At the end of the season, all three Grandville Avenue Girls Choirs come together to travel to Chicago to compete in Music in the Parks.
