KSSN brings comprehensive health and human services to children and families in our local school districts. Now in its eighth year, KSSN provides support services to 16,000 students in 28 schools representing seven districts in Kent County. We use the Community School model: a community school is open to everyone in the neighborhood and is open beyond the school day, often evenings, weekends, and year-round. It is both a place and a set of partnerships connecting school, family, and community. A Community School Coordinator helps connect families and students with needed services. A Behavioral Health Clinician provides counseling, crisis response, and other direct help to families. Kent Department of Human Services staff helps families gain self-sufficiency and needed assistance. Nurses or Health Aides provide physical health services to help students stay healthy. This unified network of services delivers an array of services from multiple providers with cultural sensitivity and relevance. The aim of KSSN is to increase satisfactory attendance levels by ensuring that all children are in school and are physically, emotionally, and socially healthy and ready to learn.
